First step
I don’t know much about living donation and have some basic questions.
One of the most complete and easily accessed resources for living donation, the site was developed by Dr. Amy Waterman with assistance from leading experts in transplant—and donors and patients themselves. The site offers one stop shopping for anyone who’d like to learn more. If you want to hear from the patients about the process, the costs, the high points, and the low, you’re able to easily search this database by almost any question you might have.
Second step
I’d like more detailed information on what happens if I decide to pursue living donation.
For both the person seeking a living donor and someone starting to consider donation, you can find the information you need from
National Kidney Registry.
The centerpiece of National Kidney Registry is their Donor Shield, a list of the many ways NKR centers protect its donors. Note that not all hospitals are part of NKR.
This government site explains the types of living donation that are possible.
I’m wondering if I would qualify to be a living donor..
Am I qualified?
Third Step
I’m ready to pursue being a kidney or liver donor. How do I select a transplant center?
Location and contact information for all centers.
NKDO allows you to compare centers based on what they offer the donor.
This video compares centers on a number of performance measures.
All transplant centers, searchable by state.
